| This paper focuses on the study of consoling words on the basis of the multimodal discourse analysis theory. The authors adopt a combination of the qualitative and quantitative empirical methods to classify and conduct a pragmatic research on the consoling scenarios in the first ten episodes of the American Drama This Is Us, mainly for exploring the necessary conditions, purposes, functions and ways of application of consoling words, so as to help readers better understand the consoling words in the American drama and use those words appropriately. |
