Abstract: Su Xuelin had experience in teaching Chinese for a long time and attached great importance to the social function of Chinese teaching. Her realistic views mostly came from personal practice. She emphasized that the teaching of Chinese language should start from the basic knowledge, and believed that extracurricular reading occupied an important position in the learning of Chinese language. She elaborated on the teaching material selection and the teaching method of intensive reading and skimming, and described how teachers designed topics, marked and graded essays, and how young people learned writing. She advocated more reading and practice, improvement of writing through reading and combination of reading and writing. Her views are still significant and enlightening for today’s Chinese teaching. |
