马尔萨斯人口理论跨出了人口学第一步，是社会科学史上无法绕过的一座里程碑。在研究方法上，人口理论主要运用了公理化方法和文献研究法；在思想上,马尔萨斯提出“两个公理”“两个级数” “三个命题”和“两种抑制”，主张通过预防性抑制途径控制人口增长；在理论发展上，以马尔萨斯人口原理为基础，新马尔萨斯主义、适度人口理论等相继产生，对人类社会发展作出了重要贡献。

英文摘要:

Malthusian population theory has taken the first step of demography, which is a milestone in the history of social science. In terms of research met hods, the population theory mainly uses the axiomatic method and the literature research method; concerning ideology, Malthus put forward “two axioms”, “two series”, “three propositions” and “two restrains” , and advocated the control of population growth through preventive restrains; as to theoretical development, based on Malthusian population principle, new Malthusianism and the moderate population theory have come into being and greatly contributed to the development of human society.
