Horizontal deformation occurs in soil behind the cantilever piles during pit excavation and soil arch is formed behind the piles. However, soil arch effect is hardly studied in the design of spacing between piles. According to the static balance condition and the soil strength theory, the author works out the computation formula for pile spacing, puts forward the simplified computational method, and analyzes influencing factors for soil arch effect. The analysis shows that the main affected area of soil arch is within twice the pile-side length behind the piles, and arch effect is more obvious with the increase of pile space. The pile space becomes larger with the increasing shear strength of soil. When the pile space remains constant, the shear strength has little effect on load distribution of soil arch. |
